COMMUNITY SERVICE EVENT: GREATER PITTSBURGH FOOD BANK

Please join us at a Food Bank sort and packing event on Friday September 24th from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Volunteering is a great way to spend enjoyable time with your fellow HCWPA members for a worthy cause.  Please contact Mark McElroy <markjmcelroy@gmail.com> with any questions and to RSVP.

Volunteer Engagement Center
Located in the Food Bank’s main facility in Duquesne, PA, volunteering in the center is a great opportunity to learn more about the scale of our work in Southwestern Pennsylvania. This support is essential in our efforts to distribute food to individuals and families facing food insecurity in our community. While volunteering, the three most common tasks are: sorting dislike items into categories, building boxes of items for distribution, and breaking down bulk items into family or pantry sized portions. Individuals will help us repackage both perishable and nonperishable food product.

Covid-19 Considerations: Volunteers WILL BE REQUIRED TO WEAR A MASK while volunteering INDOORS with the Food Bank as of Thursday, August 5th. All volunteers must wear a mask when indoors regardless of vaccination status. The mask must cover the nose and mouth securely and we are unable to make exceptions. The Food Bank will not require volunteers to wear a mask if they are outside.

For our warehouse volunteers, masks are required upon entering the building and throughout your volunteer shift, unless actively eating or drinking. For our Doorstep Delivery Volunteers we ask that you wear a mask anytime that you are in the facility and interacting with staff or other volunteers. We also ask that you wear a mask any time your deliveries take you inside of a building.
